Disappointing Wine fundraiser for Chch.

I saw the gimmick fundraiser wine “The day the ground moved like Jelly” on sale at $19.99 a while back. It raised a smile, with a nice cartoon picture and wobbly text, but at that price I wasn’t sure it was good value – for me or the recipients - and left it.
A few weeks ago in my local Woolworths I saw it reduced to $9.99 – and in a big sign it said “$1 donated to Mayoral fund”. I had another look and saw that it was a Sauvignon Blanc produced by Mudhouse, a Marlborough Vineyard I used to like a lot (although I am not sure if they don’t churn out a bit too much these days).
Turns out I was right about that. I bought two bottles and found the wine to be young and sharp, barely worth the $10 let alone $20.
And with only a $1 of donation in that full price just after the disaster, I felt Woolworths and Mudhouse could have done a lot better for the cause. Shame.
