Great Version of a David Bowie song
I must have been bored to decide to sit through Starship Troopers again the other night. But, as in the previous screening, I was immediately attracted to the great song in the graduation ball. It is sung by Zoe Poledouris (the daughter of Basil, music writer for the film) and is a rendition with variations of the David Bowie song "I have not been to Oxford Town" from Outside.
I gave up on the movie ("Oh I've got a great tactical plan! Let's sit all the mother ships in orbit just within firing range of the Bug's blue goo!") but then wanted to listen to that tune again (and again it seems!) It has been renamed - and I found it on Zoe's MySpace Page - so you too can listen to "I have not been to Paradise".
I have been a big fan over the years of Bowie, and still love his Pin Ups album, where he covered songs from the 60s, usually much better than the originals. So it is good to see the tables turned, with a cover version even more listenable than his original.
Now - I just have to get it out of my head!

You are right about that.
You are right about that. I love Bowie but that outside album is a load of pretentious rubbish. I listened to it again after reading your post - there are only two songs on it - out it goes to ebay.
I do like the Zoe version which i hadn't heard before - many thanks for the link.
Yep Mario, that was really
Yep Mario, that was really not a good album. Self-indulgent twaddle! I saw Bowie being interviewed several years ago - by Jonathan Ross in England I think - and DB was rubbishing some of his own later popular albums (Let's Dance etc) but those were heaps better than this mindless drivel.
